Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage focuses on the lower layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer of tissue surrounding the muscles, bones and joints), to release chronic muscle tension, which causes pain. Effective for release of calcification and impingement of muscles, causing pain during active range of motion. Perfect choice for those participating in strenuous exercises.
Deep Tissue massage may include: myofascial release, joint mobilizations, trigger point therapy, proprioceptive neuromuscular releases and scar tissue releases.

  • Myofascial Release – A manipulative treatment that attempts to release tension in the fascia (connective tissue that surrounds the muscles, bones, nerves and organs), due to trauma, incorrect posture, and inflammation.
  • Joint Mobilization – A manual therapy intervention, using a passive movement of the skeletal joints. A technique that is used by Occupational Therapists, with the aim of increase active range of movement of the joints, with the aim of increasing ability of a person to perform functional movements with little to no pain.
  • Trigger Point Therapy – A trigger point is a tight area within the muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. The results of trigger point massage is to release these tight areas, thus alleviating pain in a number of areas.
  • Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) – PNF rapidly uses the nervous system to increase range of motion and reduce pain, by using techniques of timed patterns of muscle contractions and relaxation response, with simultaneous assisted or resisted stretching. This technique is used in the realm of physical and occupational therapy, to treat pain and restriction caused by frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears, hip and knee replacements, neck pain and various sprains and strains in the body.
  • Scar Tissue Release Therapy – A technique the uses a gentle and effective way to decrease discomfort, fascial adhesions, dark coloring or congestion of scar tissue, as a result of accidents or surgical operations.
